You’re likely living in a city or state under lockdown and even if that restriction is to be lifted soon, it’s likely you’re wanting to be safe on that first time date. Social distancing doesn’t mean you can’t eat takeout, drink wine, and talk about interesting life topics.
1. Plan a Romantic Candlelit Dinner
Order an extravagant meal from your favorite local business, dim the lights, spark up some candles, and gaze into each other’s eyes over FaceTime or Zoom.
Or, try cooking a meal together by planning the same recipe or choosing a specific kind of fare, like brunch food. Guide each other through the steps on video chat and then compare your creations with each other through the screen!
2. Play dinner-delivery roulette
If this potential partner already knows a little about you and you have already shared addresses – because you’d invite him over if it wasn’t for quarantine. Instead, opt for a surprise takeout night that also helps support a local business.
There are many delivery services that can help you with this. Set a time for delivery, and schedule your favorite local dish to land on their doorstep. Watching them unbox and enjoy your favorite food—and you, theirs—is perfect whether you’re a plate-sharer or not.
… Or, it could be a homemade dessert exchange.
3. Take a long walk on a virtual beach
Although cities and states may be opening soon, that doesn’t mean you are rushing to the beach together. However, you can take a virtual trip together (minus the hassle and fights about wake-up times).
Or, you can use Google Maps, to revisit a favorite place you’ve been, your date’s old summer spot, or even give each other a tour of your childhood neighborhoods
4. Virtual Escape Rooms
Wow, who knew this was an option. I’ve always wanted to visit one of those places in person but I had no idea until now that they offered virtually. If you try, let me know how it went. Here’s where I saw the info.
5. Skill Share
With everyone getting into new activities, try giving each other lessons in the skills and hobbies you’re passionate about. It could be teaching the other person an instrument or how to garden — the sky’s the limit.
6. Host a trivia night
There are online trivia game sites, like the older Sporcle platform have still a lot of fun to offer. Whether you’re naming singers, or presidents or picking sports for him, you’ll learn a lot about your date in the process.
7. Netflix party and chill
Decide on a favorite show binge watch that you both can enjoy. Though you can’t hold hands, you can create cozy tucked-in vibes in each of your spaces, pick a show time a Netflix Party. This add-on enables synced video viewing and live chats so you can share each other’s reactions.
8. Go for a run?
Although, I’m married and not dating these days :), I did meet many great guys on my weekend running team experiences back before meeting my beloved. So, this can still be a fun date if you get creative and your both into working out. Why not invite him to a fun run on a virtual app? Here are some ideas.
9. Paris, of course, darling
What is better for a first date than a trip to Paris? Oh la la. First stop, the famous Louvre museum. Hubby and I traveled to Paris a couple years ago and visited the Louvre in person, it is a must see.
You can both access the virtual Louvre Museum and get to know each other as you visit the many galleries.
10. DJ Your Own Virtual Dance Party
Since concerts, live events, and dance parties are canceled for the time being doesn’t mean you can’t host your own music event. Invite him to put on his dancing shoes for some disco-style moves on screen or by using the service AuxParty, which allows you to listen to Spotify or SoundCloud in sync with others.
You can also suggest for him to have a song list exchange with you. What a fun way to get to know each other’s music taste and create a collaborative playlist.
