BEAUTIFUL post, Teresa. I have so many thoughts about this, but I’m going to share 2 random ones in no particular order: 1. The fellow in the movie trailer is right – we CAN do better than this. I think that women will have to lead the charge. 2. Being proud of our appearance is as natural as rain. I remember when we sheared the sheep every spring, the proud rams would hide behind the barn for a few days – obviously ashamed. Also, my dog comes home from the groomers literally prancing around. We shouldn’t feel bad about wanting to look good. But it needs to be done in a sensible, humane way. Again, great post – one of the best I’ve ever read.
I love those insights about the animals – and I really do appreciate your comments. It has impacted my thinking after seeing this and felt important to pass on, I am so glad you agree. We Can do better.
I enjoy dressing up, even if it’s a day that I don’t have to go out. Think Hello Kitty with pink sparkles. I always feel good about myself when I wear something that makes me look pretty or is just playful. I will say I do check labels on where the clothing I’m about to purchase was made. There are certain countries I will not buy from due to their unethical treatment of people and animals. I may not be able to speak words to them in protest, but I can say a lot to corporations by withholding my money from their pockets. It’s nice that you share a similar interest in your purchasing decisions, Teresa.
Yes, I agree – thanks Meghan.
Hey Teresa 🙂
I can totally relate about the clothes that I wear daily, it has to do with the mood I am in that day lol. On the days that I go to the gym I put on my gym clothes and immediately feel empowered….mmmmm……mindset? Yes 🙂
Thanks for sharing this awesome post, will have to check out that trailer as well 🙂
Yes, I feel the same way!
We need to make our own decisions and to consider the possibilites carefully. I’d like to see this film. I wonder if Netflix has it. I’ll check.
Beth, I do believe I saw it on Netflix.
A very relevant post & topic. We live in a fast paced society where we hardly think about these issues. We don’t stop to ask what will help me feel good today, be it our clothes, jewelry or actions we take. What did it cost? No easy answers other than to be present to choices we make to make our lives meaningful.
Yes, I agree Rosalyn – we have choices and the choice to be present.
Crazy stuff. We can blame “industry” for the misery we see in sweat shops, but what’s driving industry is the public. We want more, we want better and we want cheaper. Until consumers say this is unacceptable, I don’t see much changing, especially overseas.
I agree Jackie – that is why I wanted to share and why I am paying more attention to my own actions.
You know.. the funny thing.. I always say I was giving great hair and great legs.. my bff will agree on the hair thing (and legs) and while I may never leave the home, I like to try to look good, for me… and it is so very important!
It really is the most important….
I so agree that we need to be more self loving. It isn’t what we wear, although what we wear can affect our attitude and mood. It is a balance like most things.
Yes, for sure Karen. As long as we go for what feels good to us and not just what we are told that will make us feel good, ….right? Thanks for being here.
Wow. That is amazing. I need to find this movie. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome Sabrina.
.
Thank you for bringing this to light, Teresa. Ugh! I, too, try to live in the most sustainable way possible, which sometimes requires hard choices.
You said it perfectly, “we can show up more conscious, more loving, more considerate, more compassionate, more knowledgeable so we can make our decisions from a broader perpective.” Thank you!
You are welcome Susan. I believe it is worthwhile to open up our awareness so we can make conscious decisions rather than have other make them for us ….
