Free Your Spirit: Create Your Own Meditation Room

Maybe it’s time to free your spirit and create your own meditation room.  Our daily struggles remind us of all the aspects of life that fill us with discontent, stress and a general sense of overloading. Remaining levelheaded seems fundamental for keeping one’s sanity in today’s hectic world.

Allocating some space in order to achieve that goal and indeed, free your spirit, is definitely worth some time invested. We’re going to go through some points that you should take into consideration when designing your mental shelter, your meditation room.

Make it your own in every way

“Your own” means exactly that. No sharing, no guests. It is a meditation room for your spirit and mind. Peace and serenity are key components if your meditation is to yield any fruitful results. Helping yourself get there is possible if you tie in some alluring aesthetics within the room’s design.

Letting yourself indulge the pleasantries of your personal space is also very important. You should only take your own personal preferences into consideration. Making compromises or unfavorable decisions within the design are a certain way to disrupt your meditation process.

Make it comfortable. There is no specific rule here (even though some would speculate as much). The only important thing is that you can let go of every part of your body. Loosen those muscles, let yourself sink into your favorite resting position and just focus on the inside. You can use chairs, sofas, mats, pillows – you name it. Whatever works for you is the way to go!

Zero mess tolerance

Cluttered space brings frustration, it reminds us of our problems and things that must be handled. Freeing up your space can mean handling something bulky you can’t carry or want to throw away. Luckily, there are many super easy solutions for storage that can help you with that, handling such tasks with ease.

Some might say that is a bit redundant? After all, we are in a state of internal focus while meditating. While that is true, your surrounding still affects you whether you like it or not. Our minds are constantly under pressure from our busy day-to-day, emotional turmoil and just existing in general. Alleviating such strains from our lives is that much harder if we have a chaotic surrounding.

Vividness, not aggressiveness

Achieving stability is our goal here. Rarely does one come out of a meditation room screaming, yelling or claiming they’ve had a good one. Color is one of those influences, which is quite logical. Our brain associates specific emotions and states of mind with different colors. Matching the mood you specifically seek is easier if you can connect that feeling with its matching color (individual taste of course).

Pastel colors seem to be encouraging a calm mood, though some claim that some shades of dark colors make them feel entrapped in a closed environment, safe from harm. So it truly is a matter of choice.

Using tasteful contrast and relaxing lighting is one of the ways you could further your meditation experience. Our eyes aren’t very adaptive and it takes time to adjust to sudden changes. Removing any strain put on them helps out a great deal.

Not like a religion or anything like that (up to you if you want to incorporate that). A temple in a way that it represents you. It’s not unlike any place in the world, it’s your place.

A meditation room is a place that you have to cherish, appreciate, and treat with respect. If you mistreat your temple, you’re mistreating yourself. Your space should be used for general relaxation, meditation or yoga (if you have space). Try keeping technology out of such spaces. Distractions can turn your meditation go really bad really fast, so keep your phone and other gadgets away from it!

With all that laid down on the table, you have more than enough to start your little project. Hopefully, some of you will find peace we’re all looking for.

I hope you enjoyed Helen’s article on meditation.  It is something I practice daily and find it the best way to truly experience inner peace and tap into your own intuition.  This is one of the daily practices I like to call feminine rituals which I recommend to the women who join me in my programs or for private mentorship which are always about you reaching your highest potential in life, career, and love.

When a woman finds her true north, away from enormous amounts of stress or feeling disconnected from her innate gifts - her light shines bright with inspiration and making a difference in the world. Starting over become more about her next chapter than about the divorce or the career shift or those life transitions that seemingly throw her off course but rather redirect her into becoming more of who she really is meant to be.
